Re:Reading Comprehesion - 08.04.2008 15:14 Could you, please, depict your problem in details? In particular, what your reading process includes and how much time it takes.
Otherwise my answer will be too broaden.

Re:Reading Comprehension - 10.04.2008 21:57 the strategy of fast reading in details is given in Lesson # 29 of GMAT Section, but the basic thing is to read the first paragraph and then the first and last sentences of each paragraph. In this way you should get the main idea of the passage and also know the location of details.
Everything else depends on the question type.
Which questions take most of your time?

Re:Reading Comprehension - 21.04.2008 20:46 An alternate approach would be to read a LOT of English text (newspapers, books, online articles, etc) to boost your reading speed. I mean really a lot, try to switch ALL your reading to English if possible.

For me, it worked - I was able to quickly read the whole passage and then get down to questions.

This reading also builds up your vocabulary and improves your "feel" of the language, so it is strongly advised regardless of the approach you take. BusinessWeek, Economist, Financial Times - whatever you choose. It will help all over your Verbal section.

Re:Reading Comprehension - 10.08.2008 19:30 I have another question about Reading comprehension. Now I see that for reading comrehension a lot of practice is needed. As well as for sentence correction. I think it is better to use usefull texts like those for GMAT and TOEFL preparation. This might be more usefull than just reading some articles from business journals.

Hence I wanted your advise guys, maybe advise from verbal consultation from MBAstrategy about attacking gmat verbal section. Do you advise to take GMAT test after TOEFL, so that total reparation to GMAT would include RC texts from both TOEFL and GMAT? And SC to GMAT would be also from both GMAT and TOEFL?

As I see texts from both tests for RC are quite similar.

Thanks for your advise,

By the way I have signed for the GMAT class starting 16th of August under different name in mbastratagy, but still want to know your opinion.

Thanks,

Andrii.

Re:Reading Comprehension - 12.08.2008 00:42 The passages in TOEFL and GMAT may be in common, but the questions and the answer choice are different. And you will see that different methods are used to answer the questions correctly. Moreover, TOEFL does not contain a separate grammar section any more.

Preparation for both tests increases your ability to pay attention to the question itself. If your English vocabulary is quite poor, first prepare for TOEFL. If not, passing TOEFL after GMAT is easier as the letter teaches you important argumentation skills.

As to increasing reading skills with the help of reading a lot: economic editorials are not enough (you also have to read a lot of science and social science text); while reading also train to outline the main idea and the subjects from the passage.
