С 24 сентября 2005 года в США был запущен новый формат теста – TOEFL iBT (Inernet-based Test), на смену TOEFL cBT (Computer-based Test). На протяжении 2006 года все страны перешли на этот формат. Одним и нововведений теста является новая секция - Speaking Section. Она призвана оценить возможности студентов общаться на английском, что немаловажно для обучения в бизнес-школе или колледже.

Этот новый раздел экзамена включает 6 вопросов, отвечая на которые, вы будете говорить в микрофон. Разрешается делать пометки!

• Questions 1 and 2: Speaking about familiar topics. (Задание по типу "speak").
  
  Example:
  Some universities require first-year students to live in dormitories on campus. Others allow students to live off campus. Which policy do you think is better for first-year students and why? Include details and examples in your explanation.
  
  Preparation time: 15 seconds
  Response time: 45 seconds.
  
  
• Questions 3 and 4 (Задание по типу "read - listen - speak").
  
  Example:
  Narrator: City University is planning to increase tuition and fees. Read the announcement about the increase from the president of City University. You will have 45 seconds to read the announcement. Begin reading now.
  ...
  Now listen to two students as they discuss the announcement.
  ...
  The woman expresses her opinion of the announcement made by the university president.State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
  
  Preparation time: 30 seconds
  Response time: 60 seconds.
  
  
• Questions 5 and 6 (Задание по типу "listen - speak").
  
  Example:
  Narrator: Now listen to a conversation between two students.
  ...
  The students discuss two possible solutions to the woman's problem. Describe the problem. Then state which of the two solutions you prefer and explain why.
  
  Preparation time: 20 seconds
  Response time: 60 seconds.
